Which one should I get? I don't really like grinding games, which TERA mostly is apparently, but I like the character creation, and how indept it is. It's really a beautiful game and I would so love to play it. SWTOR is much more personal, like the interact cutscenes, it makes you feel like you really are there and you really are playing, but the character creation is pretty dull and basic.

Here are the difference between Tera Online and SWTOR.
TERA Online is more of a grinding game. So you go on quests with friends and grind in the game killing mobs and doing other tasks. Have you played final fantasy 11 or ff14. The game has alot of similarities to that. However the game has much more going for it. Another big thing is alot of the game is player driven. So you have a giant war going on that you are apart of and trying to help fix or create. Its pretty fun on how the world creates stuff. It has been likened to the game asherons call 2 back in the day.
SWTOR - This game is basically knights of the old republic which is a great game. You do amazing quests with friends and others in the game. Its also pretty cool when you do quests because it auto joins you with different people. Imagine hub zones and then areas where you quest with others. Its a pretty fun adventure. Many people have compared it to a single player game that has some online features. However when you add in the games warzones then it becomes a ton of fun. Also the game has alot of great dialogue because of the amazing work from bioware who made this game. Bioware made mass effect if that means anything to you.
All in all they are 2 different types of the games.
TERA - A game that is the current style of WOW games but a very nicely updated version.
SWTOR - More of a single player game that you can play with friends.

TOR might as well be a single player game. The game completely relies on its story content, but the stories are so divergent that it's actually hard to play with friends. It's a single player game that just happens to be online.
In terms of gameplay, the developers openly admitted that it's a WoW clone, just like most other MMOs. They didn't phrase it that way, they tried to make it sound like a good thing. Basically, the gameplay is cut and pasted from WoW, but with a focus on story.
There are way too many actual problems with the game as well. Poor endgame, horribly broken PvP, and other things. A lot of people have already started dropping their subscriptions...mark my words, this game won't survive in the long term.
So you might as well try TERA.
Personally, I'm waiting for Guild Wars 2. ArenaNet is the only company building a truly worthwhile MMO. Massive innovation to the genre, no subscription fee, a cash shop that doesn't sell competitive advantages, and no endless grind treadmills. There is so much to love, and nothing to hate. And they put their money where their mouth is at every opportunity by having playable demos at the major gaming conventions, and just recently the first beta happened. They invited members of the press to play for a weekend, and there has not been a single negative review from the beta, nor from any of the convention demos over the years.
